NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU, news, msgs) will acquire an unspecified equity interest in Fidelity Holdings Inc. (FDHG, news, msgs) in return for $400 million of financing for the development of a broadband network for Fidelity's IG2 unit.
 
 
Lucent Technologies' Home Wire(TM) Internet Chips comply with the new worldwide standard for home phoneline networking, which passed the first pivotal stage of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) approval process today.  It is based on a specification co-authored by Lucent Technologies(NYSE: LU, news, msgs) Microelectronics Group.  Lucent's Microelectronics Group, co-authored the HomePNA 2.0 specification, which is the basis for the ITU's recommended standard.

The tests will demonstrate interoperability between handsets using Lucent's Sceptre chipset and Optimay protocol stack software solution and Nokia's GPRS infrastructure equipment.'
GPRS is a packet overlay for existing GSM networks and enables fast, cost effective wireless access to the Internet.  It offers faster data transfer at speeds comparable to modem lines and beyond (56kbps up to 118kbps)
