AES report (CHKP tomorrow)



CHKP reports earnings after the close today, so I'll report on it

In the news:

Britain's Drax power station plans to raise 650 million pounds in the
bond markets next month to refinance debt related to its recent
buy-out by U.S. energy group AES Corp. 

AES completed its $1.6 billion takeover of Venezuela's leading
electric company with the appointment of a new board of directors.

NewEnergy has been selected by Bell Atlantic as its electric
generation service provider under Phase 3 of
Consolidated Edison's Retail Choice Program. Approximately 200
accounts in New York City representing 75 MW will be covered under
the contract.

AES will sell around $139 million of Electricidad shares back to its
Venezuelan subsidiary Electricidad de Caracas, allowing AES to recoup
some of the $1.6 billion it paid for the company.

BP Amoco agreed to supply approximately 100 million cubic feet a day
of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to AES power generation projects in
the Dominican Republic.

AES will acquire IPALCO Enterprises, Inc. for $25.00 per share in a
stock-for-stock transaction valued at approximately $2.15 billion
plus the assumption of $890 million of debt and preferred stock.

efficient coal plants); strong management and company growth; and
utility rights-of-way (AES plans to setup a broadband communications
